Earlier this year, I shot AND styled an editorial in Dubai for Khaleejesque Magazine’s Fashion Issue. My fantastic team worked all day in the heat and managed to pull off an incredible set of images. I’m super glad with the way it turned out, and also really proud to have my first cover!

Walking into Armina’s Bed-Stuy apartment, I instantly got hit with a whiff of delicious incense. It was a rainy day, and Brooklyn was quiet. Armina and I have been friends on the internet for at least a year now and because we have so many mutual friends, it seemed as though we’d already met. After settling in, we both stopped for a second and were amazed to realize that we never actually had! Laughing about it, we proceeded to look through her collection of clothes. Things she’d designed herself, and her personal collection of beautiful colors, fabrics and prints. I wanted to share a piece of hers with you, so I insisted that she rock one of her newly made skirts for this post, even though she rarely wears her own creations.

My job requires me to go backstage and document the madness. I always thought being backstage would be a lot more glamorous, but it’s really not. At all. I feel terrible for pretty much everyone involved, but especially for the models! They’re constantly being pulled and pushed like little dolls! Fashion week isn’t even officially over and most of the models I encountered today were completely agitated, except for the few who have experienced this more than once or twice. Which is surprisingly rare considering how young these poor girls are.

I’m amazed at how talented the artists are for putting the models together so beautifully in under 2 hours. It’s really just lots of hype, and a means for fashion people to confirm their status by what row they’re seated in at shows. But, of course, the designers make beautiful clothing and of course have been doing this season after season after season, and never fail to show their true talent.

Anyway. New York Fashion week. Interesting experience, nonetheless.
