The National is a new English-language daily newspaper that was launched in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, last year. Fatima Al-Shamsi’s column has become my favorite weekly read. She’s an Emirati going to school in New York and reminds me a lot of myself! This article particularly took my interest and I think it’s a great read for all of you Westerners. It’s time for people to educate themselves and break the ignorance that the rest of the world has acquired regarding the Middle East. Read up! It’s short, but I bet you’ll be surprised and maybe even learn a thing or two!

That is a great article, girl!
Have fun in Dubai! I’m loving living in the city but I am super bummed still we didn’t get to live together. You have to see my closet sized dorm room. It doesn’t compare! We have to get together, for sure!

Hey girl,
Great article, something I think more people need to read and consider. With that in mind, may I repost on my blog? (With credit, of course.)

Very interesting article. I agree, too many people attach stigmas to people based on something they hear or see reported on the news a few times and really don’t know the whole story. People won’t ever stop being ignorant though, it’s just a part of life, that’s why it’s important to educate people if you have the chance, because the fact of the matter is, that many of them won’t take the time to find out, if someone doesn’t correct them.
